Why Do I Need Self Care?
With life’s daily stressors and weighty demands, it can be hard at times to find the time to relax and take care of yourself. Family, work, financial and social obligations play important life fulfilling roles, but can often cause a person to feel spread too thin. Overextending yourself without taking time for sufficient self care can lead to increased stress and anxiety, and can negatively impact emotional and physical wellbeing. Some people may argue that self care is selfish, however, studies show that good self care prevents feelings of burnout, and can increase the quality of care given to others. Self care is essential for stress management, can help build feelings of emotional well being and increase self-esteem.
There are many ways to take time out and treat yourself without spending money, such as going for a walk, meditating alone in a quiet room, taking a scenic drive, giving yourself a manicure or pedicure, soaking in a warm bath, listening to enjoyable music, and taking a nap. Self care also includes eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly and making sure to get enough sleep each night. Remember that putting yourself first a few minutes a day is necessary to be at your best, and each of us deserve rest, relaxation, and a little bit of peace.
